My coasters and Hildegard of Bingen!

This time, I dedicate my creation to Hildegard of Bingen,
more commonly known as a theologian, musician, and visionary.

Here, I would like to highlight one of her lesser-known contributions: her technical role in the history of wine.

Hildegard of Bingen was left out of wine-making history because her knowledge—both female, monastic, and medical—did not fit the modern, masculine definition of technical expertise.

So here, I would like to remember that Hildegard of Bingen (1098–1179) was one of the earliest European figures to systematically describe the effects of fermentation, ageing, and wine preservation, incorporating these observations into an empirical approach to the natural world.

Her writings had a lasting influence on medieval monastic winemaking practices.
